1. Short and Long Adjectives:

Short adjectives: with one syllable

Ex: big, small, tall, thick, hot, warm

Long adjectives: with two or more syllables

Ex: useful, expensive, modern, beautiful

Exceptions:

The following adjectives are considered as ‘short’.

 + Adjectives with two syllables ending in “y”:

 Ex: funny, easy, pretty, happy, lazy, crazy

 + Adjectives ending in “er”, “w”, “le”

 Ex: quiet, clever, narrow, simple.

2. Comparatives:

a) Short Adjectives

FORM:

S + BE + Short ADJ_ER + THAN

Ex:

John is taller than Tom (is).

Mr. Brown is bigger than Mr. Peter (is).

Note: We use comparative adjectives to compare two things, people or places
