We are the Khmer Krom, one of the biggest ethnic groups in the south of Viet Nam. We live on farming – mostly rice – and fishing on the Mekong River. Life is sometimes hard as our work depends heavily on the weather. When it is not harvest time, the men of the village go fishing from early morning and don’t return until late afternoon. By the time they return, most of the village women will be waiting for them on the river bank. They wait to buy the fish, which they will later sell at the local market or bring to the nearby town for a higher price. The children will be there, too. We love running around and waiting for the boats to come in.

If you are feeling down or depressed, music can be a perfect cure. Studies show that music helps put people in a better mood and gets them in touch with their feelings. Study participants rated “arousal and mood regulation” and “self-awareness” as the two most important benefits of listening to music.
Whether you realized it or not, listening to your favorite songs while walking to class, coming from work, or right before bed provides your mind and body with much more than the enjoyment of the songs; it also has several health benefits to go along with it.
